Common Self-heal, Göteborg, Feb 2nd, 2001

When I was a child
the lawn that I knew best, the one at my grandparents'
was full of lady's mantle and self-heal -- daggkåpa och brunört
as well as white clover and creeping buttercup.
The clover and buttercups are here, too
in the lawns of my block
but I have been surprised how hard it has been to find the lady's mantle
and now the self-heal (looking far from hale)

Somehow the leaf rosettes of the Self-heal in the lawns escaped my eyes last fall - probably because they look so much like generic "leaves", that I just overlooked them. The flowers may have been gone already, when I started S-weed-walking on September 4th. This year I didn't think to check that hunch: busy with the newcomers in the New Lawn, and other excitements. Now that I have written this down, next fall will in all likelihood prove me wrong.
