close by the wall
partaking of the heat escaped from the building
a bit frostnipped
but with february flowers
tendrils of the common chickweed

when, later, I move on to patches further from the house
I will find it in places with open soil
not too dry, and not too much competition from grasses

In February 2002 I find the Chickweed less frostnipped
flowering in neglected abundance.
I think we're having milder nights so far this year,
but there's cold to come
for people and weeds.
