Another visitor from the New Lawn

They whisper in the winds
which are strong today
that this would be
a Dahlia
one day.

Unfortunately
it will probably
not live long enough to tell...

We are hoping for a late frost:
a winter entirely without it
is too much to hope for.

Dahlia dreaming
the last edge of October
...when the skies are grey

In spite of very different timing
and some difference in character detail:
when the stem of the "Dahlia"
started shooting tall in spring
got buds and then flowers
it turned out to follow the pattern
set by the Coreopsis through winter.
