Biting Stonecrop, Göteborg, January 1st, 2002

Sedum acre
Gul fetknopp i juli, i augusti
och i mars

Eva Ekeblad, 2002

The tiny fragments are from outside the stone border
where the Stonecrop is attempting escape
and the slush was compact.
The larger strands are from inside the border
where the Stonecrop may or may not be cultivated,
and where the less packed snow had melted away

A boundary crosser to celebrate
the celebrated moment
sweeping around the globe
delimiting one year from the next

From zero degrees Fahrenheit (way below freezingpoint)
To zero degrees Celsius - or more: THAW

The frost bit the Stonecrop
but could the Stonecrop
ever bite the frost?

Two months ago I found something
that I didn't realize was worth a page. So, what do I do??
Well, with hyperlinks and all, it's easy to make more space in the past.
Here is an alternate November 1st

With thanks to Alena Lee Sanusi
frequent timezone traveller
and thoughtful voice in my electronic space
for noting the extraordinary character of New Year
as the observance of a moment rather than a day
- now I understand better why New Year reinforces
my sense of that fleeting diurnal (nocturnal) sweep
passing its touch over me and my cyber friends
