Long-headed Poppy, Göteborg, January 25th, 2002
|
A frosting of snow arrived yesterday evening - not enough to prevent the winter botanists from their errands, just a layer to leave their footsteps in: I forgot to take a picture of the location, before Erik and I had been all over the place with our boots. And then that snapshot makes a better story than one of the rosette would have.
I can confess that as so many times before, Erik had to step in and unconfuse my notions: I was prepared to hear that this was yet another attempt of the crafty Shepherd's-purse to pose as something more exciting. Erik gave the verdict it's a Poppy - the responsibility for putting it up as Papaver dubium is mine, it may yet turn out to be the rhoeas instead (yes, I had it the other way around yesterday). And in the nature of our winters, it may also not turn out at all.
