Swedish Goosefoot, Göteborg, Dec 12th, 2000
Back in September
I never put this Chenopodic weed (perhaps a Meagre Hen?) on a page
because I could not properly identify it.
As opposed to the sample
that had leaves of the broader shape I associate with the Fat Hen
which had all but vanished in the leaf mulch of its patch when I returned
this one is still going strong
in some of the protective cages around young trees by the mall.
Its stamina deserves celebration, even without a proper label.

Chenopodium suecicum
Svenskmålla i mars, i september, i juli och i november
Confusable with Fat Hen:
found in September
(almost) absent in December
and erroneously taken for polyspermum
later in December.
Eva Ekeblad, 2000

What thrives and what doesn't is largely a matter of trimming and weeding
is what I think after the first year of weed watching
